<p>Cherry blossoms are beginning to blush, daffodils are lifting their heads, wildflowers are waking up, and tulips are getting ready to burst into colour. From grand estates to hidden gems, these are the top spots across Wales to celebrate the first blooms of spring in 2026.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-south-wales">SOUTH WALES</h2>

<p>Right in the heart of the Welsh capital, Cardiff’s biggest park bursts into life each spring with some truly spectacular magnolia trees in bloom. Spanning a huge 56 hectares, it’s the kind of place where you&#8217;ll quickly forget you&#8217;re just a hop, skip and a jump from the city centre &#8211; perfect for a restorative wander or a lunchtime breather after a busy day in the office.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tredegar-house-and-garden-newport"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/tredegar-house" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tredegar House and Garden</a>, Newport</h2>



<p>When spring arrives, Tredegar House is a must-visit. The gardens burst with tulips in every shade imaginable &#8211; but the beauty doesn&#8217;t stop there. Wander through the gates into the Cedar and Orchard Gardens and you’ll find drifts of daffodils glowing beneath the blossom trees in bright yellows, whites and oranges. It’s a proper spring spectacle.</p>

<p>Spring at Dyffryn Gardens is a riot of colour, from billowing herbaceous borders and buzzing meadows that support pollinators, to the playful mini meadows scattered across the Great Lawn. Look out for more than 50 varieties of daffodils &#8211; including the garden&#8217;s very own Narcissus Dyffryn &#8211; while the formal beds burst with tulips in every shade. Don&#8217;t forget your camera!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-insole-court-gardens-cardiff"><a href="https://insolecourt.org/gardens/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Insole Court Gardens</a>, Cardiff</h2>



<p>Insole Court, the striking Victorian gothic mansion in Llandaff, is home to a charming community-run heritage hub with beautifully restored rooms, but the gardens are arguably the real showstopper –&nbsp;bursting with beautiful blossoms. Join a guided tour to uncover the estate’s hidden corners and discover the flowers tucked away throughout the grounds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-west-wales">WEST WALES</h2>

<p>Between peaceful woodlands and babbling streams, four acres of colourful flood meadow come alive with wildlife and wildflowers as the sun starts to shine. Left to grow through the summer before being cut, the meadow becomes a haven for field mice, voles, bats, frogs, toads, butterflies, and a whole host of birds &#8211; making it something really special to see. Just keep an eye on where you&#8217;re walking!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dinefwr-llandeilo"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/dinefwr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dinefwr</a>, Llandeilo</h2>



<p>Springtime at Dinefwr is pure magic! The hay meadows in the Outer Park and Castle Field come alive with colour and are home to some of Britain’s shyer wildlife, including woodpeckers, treecreepers, and spotted flycatchers. Meanwhile, the formal garden’s parterre becomes a sea of tulips, filling the geometric beds with vibrant colour.</p>

<p>You&#8217;re spoiled for choice at The National Botanic Garden of Wales, with a whopping 568 acres to explore. Don’t miss the traditional Japanese Gardens (named sui ou tei to symbolise the national flowers of Japan and Wales – the cherry blossom and daffodil), which is&nbsp;a real hidden gem! A few years ago, 100 cherry trees were added to the orchard and, with carpets of daffodils and native bluebells beneath them, the whole spot becomes a truly jaw-dropping spring spectacle.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mid-wales">MID WALES</h2>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-powis-castle-and-gardens-welshpool"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/powis-castle-and-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Powis Castle and Gardens</a>, Welshpool</h2>



<p>Spring at Powis Castle’s Baroque terraced garden is a floral feast. The Daffodil Paddock glows with Welsh daffodils, while magnolias, violets, tulips, and grape hyacinths add bursts of colour throughout the terraces. Wisteria drapes the Aviary, and apple trees in the Edwardian Formal Garden bloom in soft pink and white, creating a truly stunning spring show.</p>

<p>When strolling around Llanerchaeron, keep an eye out for kingfishers, dippers, and swallows darting over the hay meadows. In the East Walled Garden, daffodils, fritillaries, alliums, camassia, and tulips burst into bloom, while the walled garden’s tulip display creates a gorgeous patchwork of spring colour.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-north-wales">NORTH WALES</h2>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-plas-newydd-anglesey"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/plas-newydd-house-and-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Plas Newydd</a>, Anglesey</h2>



<p>Ready for spring, Plas Newydd’s gardens, arboretum, and parkland come alive with daffodils dancing in the sunshine across the formal lawn and herbaceous borders. Thanks to 5,000 bulbs planted last winter, the display peaks around mid-March, joined by more than 5,000 tulips brightening the Terraces and Sunroom Courtyard.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-erddig-wrexham"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/erddig" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Erddig</a>, Wrexham</h2>

<p>Erddig&#8217;s 18th century Grade I listed walled garden is surrounded by colourful wildflower meadows just waiting to be explored this spring. But it&#8217;s the Victorian parterre at the rear of the house that really steals the show, with six varieties of tulip arranged in a vibrant display inspired by the intricate floral patterns of the property’s state bed cover.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-chirk-castle-gardens-wrexham"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/chirk-castle" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chirk Castle Gardens</a>, Wrexham</h2>



<p>Over the past decade, 16 acres of hay meadow beside Chirk Castle’s portcullis have been transformed into a vibrant haven for butterflies, bees and birds. In spring, daffodils flourish across the meadow &#8211; known as The Daffodil Lawn &#8211; and along Lime Tree Avenue near the Hercules statue, all set against the majestic backdrop of the castle.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bodnant-garden-conwy"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/bodnant-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bodnant Garden</a>, Conwy</h2>

<p>There are three thriving wildflower meadows to explore at Bodnant &#8211; Old Park, Furnace Meadow, and Cae Poeth &#8211; where hundreds of rainbow-hued blooms appear, including four different species of delicate orchid that arrive later in the summer. Daffodils are a long-standing tradition here too: generations of gardeners have been planting them since 1920 and continue to add to the display, creating a buttercup-yellow sea of beauties, with the first appearing as early as January.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-penrhyn-castle-and-garden-gwynedd"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/penrhyn-castle-and-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Penrhyn Castle and Garden</a>, Gwynedd</h2>



<p>Daffodils are already on show at Penrhyn Castle and will soon build to a showstopping peak from mid-March to late April. Golden carpets of blooms light up the wooded areas around the castle and the front of the Keep, while two meadows burst with wildflowers that will slowly start to blossom into the summer.</p>
