<p>Winter might still have Wales firmly in its grip (and boy, are we feeling it), but down at ground level, something hopeful is happening. Snowdrops are beginning to appear, sprinkling gardens and woodlands with little white signs that brighter days are on the way. From grand estates to tucked away spots, these are some of the best places across Wales to catch snowdrops in bloom in 2026.</p>

<p>At Dyffryn Gardens, the south front beds in front of the mansion are already doing their thing, bursting with thousands of newly planted bulbs. Take a wander beneath the trees and you&#8217;ll spot some of the season’s first snowdrops popping through. Be sure to pick up a <em>Winter Wander</em> leaflet from the Welcome Centre when you arrive &#8211; it&#8217;s a handy way to make sure you don&#8217;t miss the best bits. The gardens are largely accessible, with mobility scooters and wheelchairs available to hire free of charge, so it&#8217;s an easy, gentle stroll for all. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-wye-valley-sculpture-garden-chepstow">Wye Valley Sculpture Garden, Chepstow</h2>



<p>Snowdrops are very much part of the DNA at Wye Valley Sculpture Garden where they&#8217;ve been quietly stealing the show since the 1970s. More than 80 varieties bloom here every year, weaving their way through the sculptures &#8211; and if you fall hard (very likely), you can even buy over 30 varieties – so you can take a slice of pillowy white heaven home with you. There are two hour and a half visiting slots each day, and tickets must be purchased in advance.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-west-wales">WEST WALES</h2>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-colby-woodland-garden-pembrokeshire">Colby Woodland Garden, Pembrokeshire</h2>

<p>Tucked away in a hidden wooded valley, Colby Woodland Garden is just about  to spring to life with snowdrops – which usually arrive from mid to late February. You&#8217;ll notice them along the banks, on the edges of the stream, and scattering through the wildflower meadow. It&#8217;s a quietly magical place for a wander, especially if you catch it on a crisp, bright day when spring feels just in reach. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-national-botanic-garden-of-wales-carmarthenshire">National Botanic Garden of Wales, Carmarthenshire</h2>



<p>Enjoy a mile of beautiful, pearl-like snowdrops that spread from the Lower Broadwalk, along the lakeside walks and across to Springwoods at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Keep your eyes peeled near the Broadwalk too &#8211; a few years ago, one of the resident horticulturists planted a heart-shaped cluster of snowdrops in a small copse along the Broadwalk. Try and spot it for yourself –it&#8217;s rather gorgeous.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mid-wales">MID WALES</h2>

<p>With its turrets and terraces, Powis Castle makes a fairytale backdrop for snowdrop spotting. Long ribbons of delicate white blooms are scattered throughout the terraced garden. You&#8217;ll see them popping up around every corner – from the Edwardian Formal Garden to the Daffodil Paddock and in the Wilderness woodland. Dogs on short leads are welcome in the gardens until March, and always in the Courtyard. The garden is mostly accessible, but there are some uneven paths.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-north-wales">NORTH WALES</h2>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-chirk-castle-and-gardens-wrexham">Chirk Castle and Gardens, Wrexham</h2>



<p>The celebrated gardens at Chirk Castle are home to one of Wales’ most impressive snowdrop displays. This month, the Pleasure Ground Wood will be awash with around two acres of delicate white blooms spread out beneath the trees, creating a truly breathtaking scene. Throughout the castle’s gardens, snowdrops peek out among yew hedges, borders, and rock gardens, offering beauty at every turn. Visitors can explore three dog-friendly trails for snowdrop spotting, and accessible pathways ensure everyone can enjoy the display.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bodnant-garden-conwy">Bodnant Garden, Conwy</h2>

<p>Snowdrops were early making their appearance over at Bodnant Garden, with sights of them in the Winter Garden from early January. By the end of this month, thousands are expected to carpet the Old Park, and thanks to the annual tradition of planting new bulbs each year, the display just keeps getting better. You can even join in on the fun during February half-term, with bulb planting sessions between 10.30am and 12.30pm on <strong>Tues 17</strong> and <strong>Thurs 19 Feb</strong>. Dogs on short leads are welcome until the end of March. The garden features steep paths and steps, so it may not be suited to those with accessibility restrictions –although there are some clear paths.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-penrhyn-castle-and-garden-bangor">Penrhyn Castle and Garden, Bangor</h2>



<p>The grounds at Penrhyn are vast and wonderfully dramatic, with stunning views of the mountain ranges in the backdrop – often snow-capped and glorious. At ground level, large swathes of snowdrops glow against the winter, brightening the gardens and offering a gentle reminder that spring is on its way. It still feels properly wintery, but there&#8217;s real promise in the air. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-erdigg-hall-and-garden-wrexham">Erdigg Hall and Garden, Wrexham</h2>

<p>Watch as the tiny white blooms continue to spring up at the west front of the house, the tea garden, the Moss Walk, the Rose Garden, and scattered woodlands. Keep your eyes peeled for the rare double-headed snowdrops too. They&#8217;re a gorgeous surprise that keen snowdrop lovers won&#8217;t want to miss.</p>
