<p>A Welsh chef has found himself at the centre of a very British debate after swapping traditional scones for Welsh cakes on the afternoon tea menu at Wimbledon. Bryn Williams, who is overseeing the menu at on site restaurant The Renshaw, decided to fly the flag for Wales with a spread featuring Welsh cakes and bara brith instead. Cue the inevitable cries of &#8220;Where are the scones?&#8221;</p>



<p>Not everyone was thrilled to see the classic cream tea staple missing from the line-up, but Bryn was quick to reassure diners there was no plot to banish scones for good, describing both as much-loved British favourites. As for us? We&#8217;d happily make room on the cake stand for both.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re plotting a camping escape, this one&#8217;s worth bookmarking. Nantcol Waterfalls near Llanbedr in Gwynedd has been named one of the UK&#8217;s Outstanding Sites for 2026 – and with waterfalls, mountain views and peaceful surroundings, it&#8217;s easy to see why. Nestled in the rugged Rhinog Mountains, the campsite is also just a stone&#8217;s throw from Shell Island, making it the perfect base for a little coastal exploring. As if that wasn&#8217;t enough, it also scooped Best Campsite North Wales at the 2025 Camping and Glamping Awards.</p>



<p>Set on a working farm, this dog-friendly site keeps things beautifully simple, with just enough creature comforts. There&#8217;s a pizza van dishing up hand-stretched Neapolitan pizzas throughout the summer (because campfire beans only get you so far), alongside handy extras including tea and coffee, phone charging and freezer facilities. If glamping&#8217;s more your style, the cosy pods come with TVs, firepits and underfloor heating. Fresh air, spectacular scenery and pizza on tap? We&#8217;re sold.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-queens-arcade-is-cooking-up-something-new">Queens Arcade is cooking up something new</h2>

<p>Cardiff&#8217;s Queens Arcade could soon be swapping shopping bags for dinner plates, with plans submitted to transform part of the city centre spot into a foodie destination. The proposals, from the owners of St David&#8217;s Cardiff (Landsec), would see part of the arcade redeveloped to create three new restaurant units overlooking Working Street.</p>



<p>It&#8217;s the first taste of a wider refresh for the shopping complex and, if approved, will serve up even more places to eat in the heart of the city. The shops aren&#8217;t going anywhere, but Queens Arcade could soon be giving hungry shoppers one more reason to linger a little longer.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-pedal-power">Pedal power!</h2>

<p>Start dusting off the Lycra (or just the picnic blanket) – the Tour de France is officially coming to Wales. The world&#8217;s most famous cycling race will arrive in July 2027, with Stage 3 rolling from Welshpool through Mid Wales, via Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells and Brecon, before taking on the legendary climbs of the Brecon Beacons and South Wales Valleys en route to a spectacular finish in Cardiff.</p>



<p>As the final UK stage of the Grand Départ, it promises to be one of the biggest free sporting events Wales has ever hosted. Whether you&#8217;re cheering from the roadside, riding a section yourself (at a pace the pros would kindly ignore), or simply soaking up the atmosphere, it&#8217;s the perfect excuse to discover some of Wales&#8217;s finest scenery.</p>

<p>One of North Wales&#8217;s favourite beauty spots has had a glow-up. After 18 months of improvements, Loggerheads Country Park has unveiled revamped facilities, upgraded outdoor spaces, a landscaped seating area and a brand-new café – giving walkers, families and coffee lovers even more reason to stop by.</p>



<p>Taking over the café is Tŷ&#8217;r Felin, from the team behind Chilly Cow Ice Cream, serving locally roasted coffee, homemade bakes and plenty of tempting treats. Think Chilly Cow ice cream, warm Belgian waffles, sausage rolls, loaded hot chocolates and Welsh Whisk Brownies. The new café replaces much-loved Caffi Florence, but with woodland walks, mountain views and excellent cake all on the menu, Loggerheads is looking better than ever.</p>

<p>Cardiff&#8217;s bagel game is about to get even stronger. The Steamhouse is heading to High Street Arcade, bringing its freshly baked bagels, speciality coffee and legendary doughnuts to the city centre. There&#8217;s no opening date just yet, but the news has already got foodies talking thanks to the brand&#8217;s cult following and famously generous fillings.</p>



<p>What started life as a humble mobile coffee shop has spent the past decade building a devoted fanbase for its bagels, espresso and sweet treats. Top of the menu? The bestselling Workman – a breakfast beast piled high with smoked bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, your choice of sauce and crispy hash brown tots. Breakfast plans, sorted.</p>
