<p>Do you own dogs that firmly believes they&#8217;re an integral part of the holiday itinerary? Thought so. Happily, Wales is a nation of true dog lovers, with plenty of paw-approved places to stay. From cosy countryside boltholes with gloriously muddy walks on the doorstep, plus city stays that don&#8217;t just tolerate pups, read on for the places where humans and hounds are equally spoiled.  </p>

<p>Dogs get a proper welcome at Bryn Berwyn in Tresaith, where four-legged guests are treated just as royally as their humans. This elegant country house hotel in West Wales has four dedicated doggy-friendly rooms &#8211; complete with beds and bowls &#8211; and pups are welcome to pad about in the bar, drawing room, and out on the decking too (with the breakfast room available upon special request). There’s chilled and frozen storage for dog food, meals on hand if you forget theirs (it happens), plus thoughtful eco touches like poo bins and a composter. Best of all? Some seriously good walks start right on the doorstep, from peaceful country lanes to a footpath winding through fields and woodland straight down to Tresaith beach. Official verdict: peak tail-wagging territory.</p>

<p>Travelling with a VIP (Very Important Pooch), and only the very best will do? Check into the Grove of Narberth, a five-star hotel with a coveted Michelin Key. There are a select number of dog-friendly suites, many with private gardens or terrace access &#8211; ideal for early morning sniffing and post-walk snoozing. Dogs are treated to the full five-star experience too, with cosy blankets, towels, treats and even their own doggy dining menu. Bookings are handled directly by the reservations team (dogs don’t do online forms, duh), with a £30 per dog, per night charge for the full pampered-pup package. Nearby, Freshwater West is a brilliant dog-friendly beach with grassy dunes made for zoomies, while more genteel types might prefer a chilled, on-lead saunter around the Bosherston Lily Ponds.</p>

<p>Plas Weunydd Hotel (plus its rather lovely glamping options) is the kind of place that knows <em>exactly</em> its crowd – adventurers, families, and dogs who flat-out refuse to be left behind. Perched on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, this doggy-friendly bolthole is perfectly placed for getting properly out and about. The waterfalls at Cwmorthin are less than 10 minutes away, Criccieth Beach and Castle make for a cracking family day out, with dogs on short leads welcome on the castle&#8217;s ground floor, and Snowdon is right there whenever the urge to summit &#8211; or sensibly take the train &#8211; strikes.</p>

<p>Dogs are very much part of the furniture here – with just a few ground rules to keep tails wagging all round. Pups will need to bring their own bed or crate and bowls, and while the spa and main restaurant are strictly humans-only zones, there’s plenty of outdoor space to roam instead. A £25 per dog, per night fee covers the post-stay spruce up. Beyond the hotel, the local landscape shows Mid Wales at its very best, with epic walks and big-sky scenery &#8211; and back at base, the hotel&#8217;s own resident four legged greeter, Molly is always on hand for a spot of fireside fuss.
