<p>If you’re craving a slow, sunny day out, Wales is a bit of a dream for flower fields and PYO farms. Picture rows of dahlias and sweet peas, swathes of lavender and towering sunflowers — all made for wandering, picking and lingering a little longer.</p>

<p>Tulip season may have wrapped, but plans are already blooming for next year, (a cool 250,000 stems, no less). For now, it&#8217;s lavender&#8217;s time to shine, with sweeping purple fields, the hum of bees and all the laid-back, summer stroll vibes you could want. It’s an easy win for a family day out too: bring a picnic, claim a spot and soak up the views.</p>



<p>There’s an on-site café, covered seating (because, Welsh weather) and plenty of fresh lavender bunches to take home. And for something a little unexpected? Resident reindeer, ready for a gentle fuss (and feeding). Dogs are welcome on leads, and there’s even a photo arch primed for those must-have summer snaps. Come mid-July, the sunflower fields steal the spotlight — nearly 400,000  blooms across more than 10 different varieties, all turning on the charm in one glorious, golden display.</p>

<p>Tucked away in Blackwood, this small, organic family farm is all about simple, sustainable living and a genuine love for what they do. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, learn a little and see first-hand just how much care goes into it all — you’ll leave with a whole new appreciation. </p>



<p>The farm shop is open daily and brimming with fresh produce, including their own organic milk straight from the source (plus a <em>very</em> tempting range of milkshakes). Throughout the year, there&#8217;s plenty to lure you back too, from pumpkin picking in autumn to a sunflower field in summer, complete with a maze and pick your own blooms. If past seasons are anything to go by, expect those golden fields to be back later this summer.</p>

<p>At Wild &amp; Welsh Flower Farm, it&#8217;s all about keeping things simple — seasonal blooms, grown locally without chemicals or unnecessary waste. Run by Jozie, (who trained at the Bath Flower School, no less), the farm mainly supplies florists, but opens its gates now and then for workshops and PYO days.</p>



<p>When it does, it’s delightfully low-key: fill a jam jar for £10 or a bucket for £20, then wander and pick to your heart’s content. Tickets are free (just book ahead to keep things running smoothly), and honestly, it’s one of those easy, endorphin-boosting ways to spend a few hours surrounded by flowers.</p>

<p>Run by best friends Kathy and Hazel, The Long Mountain Flower Company is all about natural, British-grown blooms, with most of what they use grown right on their Mid Wales farm. They open the gates for small group visits too, giving you the chance to learn a little about flower growing while soaking up those rolling countryside views.</p>



<p>Set right on the England-Wales border, it’s a pretty special spot — with the ancient Beacon Ring hillfort just nearby for added atmosphere. Visits include a relaxed wander through the flowers, with plenty of insight into how they’re grown, and you can add tea, coffee and cake if you fancy making an afternoon of it. <p>Wander through rows of vibrant dahlias and drink it all in – we&#8217;re talking around 75 varieties and nearly 4,000 plants in one glorious sea of colour. It’s super family-friendly too: kids go free being free for children, with little activities dotted around and sweet pea jam jars you can fill yourself (which is as cute as it sounds).</p>



<p>Make a day (or several) of it with a £17.50 season ticket for unlimited visits, or drop in for £4 per person (£6 on the gate). Dahlias are £1.50 a bloom, greenery £1 a stem and those irresistible sweet pea jars are £7.50 — plus you’ll bag a cheeky 10% off in the farm shop with your ticket.</p>

<p>Run by Katie and Chris, Coalfield Flower Farm is a calm, welcoming space focused on wellbeing through flowers and nature. Everything here — from workshops to hands-on growing — is designed to build confidence, spark creativity, and help you properly switch off. </p>



<p>Come summer, their PYO days are a real highlight: fill a jam jar or bucket with blooms, then settle in with tea and cake for a properly wholesome afternoon. They also host workshops and special events (think birthdays and hen parties with a floral twist), so it’s well worth keeping an eye on their socials for upcoming dates.</p>

<p>Dating back to 2003, Farmers&#8217; Welsh Lavender was the first to grow lavender at scale in Wales, and even helped get it officially recognised as a crop. Set high in the hills, it&#8217;s all wide-open views and that proper peaceful, countryside feel.</p>



<p>Open Tuesday to Friday, summer visits (July – August) give you access to the lavender fields, picnic spots, and even wild swimming if you&#8217;re feeling brave. There’s also a Nordic-style sauna overlooking the valley if you fancy something a little different. Dogs are welcome on leads, so it&#8217;s an easy, feel-good day out all round. </p>
