Chances are, you’ve encountered a Matthew Jones piece. Based in South Wales, Matthew has become the ceramicist of choice for chefs with a serious eye for design. His rugged, quietly luxurious hand-thrown tableware appears at some of Wales’s most stylish dining spots, including Cardiff’s <a href="https://pasturerestaurant.com/locations/pasture-cardiff/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pasture</a>, <a href="https://pasturerestaurant.com/locations/parallel-cardiff/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Parallel by Pasture</a> and the beautifully refined <a href="https://www.restaurantfir.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Restaurant FIR</a> in Crickhowell.</p>



<p>The best bit? You can bring that restaurant-grade magic right home. Choose from straight-sided plates, moody speckled glazes and that perfectly imperfect, tactile feel that makes every meal &#8211; from midweek pasta to Sunday roast &#8211; feel a little bit more special.</p>

<p>If you’re looking for pieces that show off the softness and suppleness of clay, you’ll find it in Tim Lake’s Cilycwm studio. His work feels less like something bought in a shop and more like something discovered. We’re especially taken with his lidded pots and caddies, finished with creamy Cornish stone glazes. Perfect for storing teabags &#8211; or teatime treats (just saying!).</p>

<p>When a ceramic duo has their work in the permanent collection of the V&amp;A, you know you’re looking at something special. James and Tilla Waters have been perfecting their craft in rural Carmarthenshire since the late ‘90s. Team work is dream work &#8211;&nbsp; James throws the clean, precise stoneware forms (cups, bowls, vases and jars), while Tilla handles the intricate, award-winning decoration. We are particularly swooning over this copper-red glazed teapot &#8211; it would look perfectly at home on a cosy Welsh kitchen table wouldn’t you say?</p>

<p>So, your kitchen cupboards are currently a graveyard of boring, mass-produced mugs? Daniel Boyle is the intervention you need. He’s a clay alchemist &#8211; using unconventional firing processes and creating runs of glaze on his stoneware that look like moving water. Be warned: once you own one of his pieces, there’ll be a lot of ‘don’t even think about touching my favourite mug’ happening in the kitchen.</p>

Her minimalist, hand-thrown ceramics with their velvety matte finishes feel like a hug for your hands. It’s no surprise she’s a favourite for high-end collaborations – she’s created bespoke tableware for some of Wales&#8217; most talked-about dining spots, including the Michelin-starred <a href="https://www.gorserestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gorse</a> in Pontcanna, <a href="https://www.annwnrestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Annwn</a> in Narberth and <a href="https://gwenrestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gwen</a> in Machynlleth. The good news? You don&#8217;t need a tasting menu reservation to get your hands on them. You can shop her small-batch drops directly from her website &#8211; just be quick, because they disappear fast.</p>
